About me

Dear Sir / Madam, It is with great interest that I am applying for this position of Designer.I have always been a very creative person with a strong eye for detail. This led me to study Art Directing at university for three years, attaining a South African diploma. To gain this qualification I had to study a wide range of modules for example Graphic Design, copy writing, client service, photography, account handling and marketing.I then went on to complete three years of a Printing Management diploma whilst working fulltime, receiving distinctions in printing processes, print estimating and production planning, management, financial accounting and Mercantile law. The hard work and long hours I put in proved fruitful when I was selected for the Dean's list in 2008. This is an award given to students who gain an average of more than 75% overall. My five years graphic Design experience at Media24, the largest Media Company in Africa has proven invaluable. I was originally hired as a Junior designer working with the industry standard graphics software. I was then promoted to assistant head of design and was also regularly asked to step in when the design manager was unavailable. Not only was I actively involved with designing, I was also involved in managing/supervising a department of 13 designers where I had to successfully utilise strong communication skills. My other responsibilities whilst working in this position included managing and delegating workflow throughout the department (both print and web) and ensuring all work was completed to deadline. I was actively involved in liaising with sales representatives, printers as well as clients and agencies. Furthermore I had to ensure that agency supplied material was print ready and I was also responsible for the retouching of images. My previous work environment was extremely deadline driven, with four to six deadlines every day. This experience enabled me to hone my organisational skills, taught me how to work successfully under pressure as well as how to manage my time efficiently.Since August I have done freelance work for Hope for M.E. which is a registered charity. This involved redesigning a new logo for the charity as well as an information leaflet. I thoroughly enjoyed having to use my creativity and design flair to present information clearly whilst still ensuring that I gained maximum impact for the charity. In addition, I feel that it is important to mention that I am a committed non-smoker and that I believe Leukaemia Research is an extremely worthwhile cause that I would really like to strive to make a valuable contribution to.I look forward to hearing from you,Yours faithfully,Roberto Delucchi
