ABOUT

Talus Research + Design was just beginning to break the ice with the design and manufacture of a proprietary product intended for temporary application to patients of traumatic sports-related brain injuries. If you understand anything about the current controversies surrounding the NFL and traumatic head injuries, you know that this is a hot topic for anyone who would like an alternative to the old-school theory of ‘suck it up and walk it off.’

Talus envisioned a product format that was to be called Neck Cooling Collar or NCC for short. They liked it so much they trademarked NCC, so it was mandatory to incorporate it into the branding and corporate ID.

Since Talus was primarily concerned with product development, throwing in a new ID for the parent company (which was badly needed) into the deal was our idea of a twofer.

The target markets included scholastic athletics (high schools, middle schools, colleges and universities) as well as professional and club sports and sports medicine. The look and feel for the corporate ID and
related packaging had to be instantly competitive with other more
established brands—even more so with the packaging.

Since they would be doing battle on store shelves with global brands, the cool factor (no pun intended) had to be there front and center.
