Gin label and packaging design for The Oxford Botanic Gardens Physic Gin. Commissioned by The Oxford Artisan Distillery (TOAD).

Oxford Physic Gin is inspired by the oldest catalogue of plants at the PhySicke (physic) Garden (1648). Created by Jacob Bobart the Elder in 1648, TOAD is the only distiller in the world allowed access to this ancient catalogue and the Botanic Gardens.

The final design combines authentic wood type with shapes and illustrations inspired directly from the garden. Printed on appropriately textured paper stock we blended the past with the modern day in order to create a label design that not only does the liquid justice but allows the entire brand essence to combine and celebrate the history of the university’s extraordinary botanic garden.

The result is a unique artisanal gin with many botanicals sourced directly from the Botanic Gardens, while the brand, and packaging reinforces the super-premium nature of the product and craft distilling.
