Debbie Hooper and I decided to create a children’s book for our granddaughter Luna. Debbie is a very capable writer, and has a heart for children, particularly her precious Luna. Debbie wrote this story on quiet afternoon. My contribution however, took about a year fitting it between my ongoing commissioned work.
I decided to use this opportunity to explore a different stylist approach. I have always loved drawing with an ink dip pen and wanted to see how a digital pen would translate into something as whimsical as a children’s illustration. I am delighted at how it all turned out and hope others will agree with me. I want to try developing this style for ongoing illustrative exploits. I created the line art on my iPad in Sketchbook Pro, and added colour in Photoshop. The images a relish the most are the ones with vibrant colour. A strong palette seems to balance the hardness of the scratchy lines. I hope there will be more opportunities to
refine and improve on this style.
So far the book has been received with great enthusiasm. People have been most encouraging and complimentary. SO here’s holding thumbs... :D
