The more AI images I see, the less I see it as art.
Recently, people in all sorts of business streams including advertising, design and publishing have been leaning on AI Art more and more. I’ve had many clients either ask me to use AI to create an illustration - or have provided an AI image that they want me refine or finalise for them.
The reason they do this is because all AI Art is utterly predictable and uniform. It is a race to the lowest common denominator and quickly becomes uninteresting without a human touch. It lacks uniqueness of style and differentiation. To explain: the biggest challenge CG animators have to deal with is making truly convincing human characters. The closer a CG character is to real life, the more unnatural it appears to be. Humans are very critical observers of human behaviour. We detect 'oddness' in the slightest deviation from normality and simply can’t relate to synthesis.
Similarly, art that isn’t transactional won't provoke an emotional response in the observer. It has failed as art. We humans crave authenticity and uniqueness, novelty doesn’t provide a human connection, it briefly entertains - which is why it is most suited to social media.
I fight back by striving to create art that is funny, uniquely stylish, playful and positive. I love using fresh colours with clear, graceful and sensitive lines. It’s something only I can do in my own particular way!
If you’re curious about how this translates into my artwork, visit my website where I have shared examples of my art I hope you will find unique and authentic.
Take it easy but rage against the machine!
