ABOUT

The project was renovating a 100year old Maleny Farmhouse with particular design attention to the kitchen, being the heart of the home. The client desired an English cottage/farmhouse theme, embracing the home’s heritage and charm, display cabinets, island on wheels, butler sinks, vegetable storage and rustic elements. We were restricted by the existing space already drawn in the renovation plans.

Drawing on the inspiration of the English cottage/farmhouse theme and the beauty of the existing heritage features and rural views, we designed a kitchen that perfectly blends historic charm with modern functionality. Embracing the home’s century-old heritage, the English Farmhouse and Cottage style theme permeates throughout.

The butler’s pantry boasts elegant features like glass-fronted display cabinets, a fluted front apron sink, Tasmanian Oak accents and an integrated dishwasher and bar fridge. With our suggestion accepted to add an openable skylight in this space, natural light and airflow enhances the workspace’s appeal.

In the main kitchen, the Farmer’s Doors joinery continues, adding that traditional workmanship to complement the history of the original home. The VJ insert in the doors and drawers match the VJ walls and bulkhead surrounding this kitchen which makes it truly spectacular.

The rangehood is concealed within the overhead cupboards and there is plenty of storage for all those items only used on special occasions, with the joinery utilizing the high ceilings. There are two blind corner mechanisms specified for the kitchen to ensure access to all items within those hard-to-reach areas being easily accessible now and in the future; as well as an oil and spice pull out. We were unable to fit a trio pull out bin drawer in the butler’s pantry near the sink due to space, however we had a two bin pull out next to the sink plus an additional small bin option in the cupboard under the sink for the chook scraps, which the client was happy about.

Adding to the décor and charm of the English Farmhouse style, is the cup handles and pulls in an antique brass finish and vintage style tapware and accessories. The client also got her island on wheels, which was made with the same Tasmanian Oak as the butler’s pantry benchtop, crafted by a local artisan.
