About me.

It all started for me when I was 5.

Our dear family friends just happened to be the owners of a small advertising agency.

And during one get-together it was suggested by Harry the owner of that small ad agency, that I take off my shoes and socks, and show him my feet. Right there at the dinner table. Next to the potatoes and green beans. Suspecting this to be some kind of grown-up trap to get me in trouble I looked up at my dad who smiled and nodded his head ok. Even at that age I understood family politics and looked to my mom to see what she thought. She smiled and also nodded. So I ripped off my little tiny dress shoes and pulled off my little tiny dress socks as quick as I could before my parents came to their senses. Harry took my foot into his hand which almost swallowed it up. Toes and all. After what seemed like an eternity of prodding my heel, poking my arch, jabbing at my ankles, Harry finally looked up and proclaimed

" Perfect! " "Let's do it! "

Next thing I know I am whisked into his home photography studio and snap, snap, snap.

A month later my mother and father called me into our living room to show me a magazine, dog eared, marking a page. On that page was my size 4 baby foot. Magic markered into sections to show the support points a child's foot needs. It was an ad for Thom McCann Shoes.

A national ad and my stinky little foot was the star.

That was all I needed. I was hooked. Every chance I had to go over to that house of wonders and see what amazing things that friend of the family was up to, I took. Often when having dinner with us, that mad genius would dash out from his study with his latest idea, drawn up in his squiggly cartoon style, and unleash a torrent of questions on us designed to see if this latest brainstorm of his was hot or cold.

I was in awe of this man and the passion he possessed that was called advertising. Passion for the craft of ideas that can launch brands and move people. Done right it works wonders.

I know one little 5-year old who would agree.
