Restless Movement Between Cultures Exhibition - Island2Island Art 2020

Restless Movement Between Cultures is the inaugural exhibition of the Island2Island Art project presenting contemporary works by Sardinian, British and International artists. The desire is to explore commonalities and differences among islands, expressed by multiple artistic mediums as well as generate links for future research, business opportunities and creative relationships.
This project brings together contemporary artists with an interest or link between
the two islands of Sardinia and Great Britain in order to build a dialogue and exchange of
ideas via the visual arts. The diversity of artworks presented shows how artistic practices have
no boundaries and can coexist and develop in a harmonious way regardless of the geographical isolation and physical distance of the two countries. Equally, communalities of subjects and environmental similarities stimulate a fresher research approach in a process of ethnographic identification founded on the deep cultural heritage conveyed by each artist.
I wanted to work on an exhibition linked to my motherland Sardinia bringing together an
eclectic mix of Sardinian, British and International artists for many years and I was finally
able to set up this project as part of my research for my Master Research in Arts Management
studies.
The way in which the project developed since the call for artists was launched showed me
how art has the power to find individual sources of meaning from a unique message which is
then translated by the artist in a variety of ways and perspectives within their respective
artistic practice.
The result has been a marvellous arrangement of ideas and techniques generated by the
diversity of styles and cultural backgrounds. A common denominator emerging is the
experience of movement, a search for freedom of expression and the willingness to find lines
of unification going beyond the geographical and physical restrains of island life. Travels,
memories, sounds, and familiar subjects suggest an organic interpretation and blended
significance offering a discerning account of a profound sense of belonging resulting in a
collective identification of meaning, feeling and effect.
