ABOUT
Bernard Weatherill has a long British history in bespoke tailoring, they were established on Savile Row in 1912 and were awarded a Royal Warrant by His Majesty King George V as a riding clothes outfitter and livery tailors in 1920. Bernard Weatherill has fitted Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II for riding breeches and designed James Bond’s suit in the 1964 film Goldfinger.
With a long overdue move into the ‘ready-to-wear’ market, the brand needed an update to its 100 year old identity in order to function in the world today.
The old identity consisted of one single wordmark and used the Royal Warrant above like a brand symbol. Although the identity did carry brand recognition it was decided the best way forward was to create a new modern wordmark and symbol, as well as rethinking the default placement of the royal warrant within the lockup. The challenge was to capture the brand's rich British heritage whilst providing the business with a functional identity.
The solution manifested in the use of a single regal-red brand colour, a simple and clear wordmark and a BW monogram as the symbol. Giving the brand a highly functional identity suitable for use across digital, print, and onscreen.
