Over the holidays I picked up a battered book of black and white prints of a series of Alpine and city landscape paintings, held in an obscure Austrian collection, and at the princely sum of £1.50

The rather gothic tone of the plates put me in mind, for what reason I have no idea, of the Shelley’s stay in Geneva and the resulting famous dream of Mary’s.

As a result, I assembled a strange storm-dream of a collage to release the energy trapped in the prints of the powerful land- and cityscapes - the upper ‘plate’ a notion of the space where the dream might be set, the lower, the lines strung across this stage place catching the story’s narrative as bird-like pages singing on a wire.
