ABOUT
This was a speculative piece developed to open a conversation with Halfords (the car to bike to camping and all things travel-related brand) around two ideas.
The first was how to revitalise the emerging 'drive-in' service offer as a retail experience more aligned to the retail one - as the two were really quite disparate and Halfords had gone on an aquisition spree, buying up these kinds of operations - but the visual quality of them was very mixed.
The second was looking at how an offer like this to capture vacant real estate as part of a regeneration and re-use project for local communities and authorities (so a small-scale anchor tenant as well as generate employment.)
So the facility design was deliberately easily adapted to diverse building types and sought to re-use as much of the exisiting built fabric as possible.
The mini-store could then also act as a small delivery hub for larger stores or offer range-specific SKUs for the particular drive-in customer.
I came up with the overall cconcept, the naming and identity extension, the retail design and interior and set up the visuals in SketchUp to demonstrate the idea.
The project never got off the ground last year :(
