ABOUT
‘A Different Angle’ - Retail graphic programme
Mitsubishi had launched a new, global, corporate identity programme, overhauling their retail presentation from signs to seating, and our client, the UK distributor approached us to help with the implementation.
And the first thing we spotted was that boy, was this scheme dull.
The palette or black, grey and white rectilinear forms was cold, uninspiring and strangely unwelcoming. But fortunately there was no guidance for retail graphics.
So I suggested the idea of commissioning large-scale backdrops from leading UK illustrators, covering six broad regions of the UK;
i. The Highlands and Islands
ii. The North of England
iii. The Welsh Marches
iv. The East Coast
v. The South of England
vi. The West Country
and then applying those to the refurbishments.
The project was going really well, the Marketing Director was really behind it, and then…
…well the project’s champion handed the project over to a new marketeer, who wanted to do their own thing. Which involved taking pictures of cars and sticking them on the wall.
And then the parent company announced overnight they were shutting the entire operation in the UK.
So, all I have is the amazing artist impressions and bunch of briefs.
It was great fun while it lasted though.
