To interpret song lyrics typographically using no images, only type. I chose the song 'People of the Sun' by Rage Against the Machine, a politically motivated rock band from America (incase you didn't know, you should, they're great). After researching the band and the meaning of this particular song I found in essence, it's about the mistreatment of the indigenous people of Chiapas in Mexico who had their homeland taken away from them by the Mexican government who had sold the land to large American companies. They bore arms from the US government.

Rage Against the Machine usually perform in front of a Red Star, the mark of the Zapatista, a revolutionary leftist political and militant group.

My interpretation shows the Mexican and American national flags 'in bed' with each other at the top of the piece, made up of information I found about the countries and how their peoples ethnicities are made up. All this information starts to intertwine and fall down to create the red star of the Zapatista. Leading into the star are the start of the lyrics from the song. I went in and brought the piece alive by moving letters around thus creating ebb and flow, like an angry crowd then forming into shape regimentally below.

I then got the piece printed and screwed it into a ball and ironed it flat again to create creases, ridges and distress.
