ABOUT

Concept
Set in a gritty, dystopian future ravaged by war and environmental collapse, this UI concept was developed to immerse players in the harsh realities of survival. The goal was to balance atmosphere and usability—creating a visually rich interface that enhances tension without compromising clarity. The concept drew inspiration from cinematic universes like The Last of Us, Metro Exodus, and Mad Max, focusing on themes of scarcity, danger, and resilience.

Execution
I began with extensive mood boards and visual research to define the tone—grimy textures, analogue elements, and a muted, desaturated colour palette. The UX phase included user journeys and wireframes to establish intuitive navigation for in-game menus, HUDs, inventory systems, and mission briefings. Low-fidelity sketches evolved into polished, high-fidelity screens using Figma and Photoshop, integrating custom iconography and distressed UI elements to evoke the feel of makeshift, salvaged tech. Motion references and UI states were also documented in a case study to showcase responsiveness and immersive feedback loops.

Results
Although a self-initiated project, the final deliverables reflect professional-level quality and could be seamlessly integrated into a production pipeline. The concept has served as a portfolio centrepiece, demonstrating my strengths in UX thinking, visual storytelling, and UI design for games. It’s also sparked conversations with studios and peers interested in gritty, narrative-driven interfaces.
