Ricardo Papeleira Costume Designer

ABOUT

Kintsugi meets the Flower power of the 60s.
I wanted to create a statement that was empowered by Love. Of which both concepts have that in common. A flower that would bloom mid performance and reveal its beautiful and delicate inside, while showing its imperfections, highlighted with gold cracks.
I created this costume two pieces. A petal corset and an exaggerated bell bottom jumpsuit.
By starting with interlined gold Lycra, I then hand-painted all the designs in blue acrylic leather paint over white faux-leather fabric, which was also glued to a layer of EVA foam to give more depth to the cracks. The corset was made the same way, but it has a Rigiline skeleton inside every petal, giving its concave shape.
During the performance, once the flower blooms, it reveals its inside which is made out of white Faux-Fur.
