ABOUT
Australian YouTuber Andrew Baker wanted a music video for his children YouTube channel. The video was based on children’s love for eating bogeys. It had to be somewhat disgusting as well as appealing enough to make children want to watch it more.
To achieve this, I designed the characters to be cute as possible, with the main character, a rough-looking boy with missing teeth to make him more relatable to toddlers . He would be accompanied by a cute girl who loved to wear pink and a huge friendly monster. Children love monsters, so I made him cute and warm.
To make the video more engaging, the dance would have to be goofy enough for kids to want to copy and easy enough for them to actually mimic. And the colours had to be bright and vivid
Having figured out exactly what to do and how to get into the minds of toddlers, I began a one month mission to bring the idea to life. The result was a video that has garnered close to 15k views on the fear free music channel. Before YouTube disabled comments on all children videos, you could spend hours reading kids expressing their disgust for the bogeys as well as love for the video. The video had hit a chord and evoked the exact emotions I wanted the viewers to experience.
