ABOUT
Illustration for Gina Rushton and Paul Farrell's BuzzFeed article 'This Is What It Is Like Waiting For Medical Attention In An Offshore Detention Centre' about asylum seekers and refugees stranded on the small Pacific island of Nauru, without access to the medical attention they need. Many felt that the Australian government were leaving them there to die.
I turned medical IV poles into SOS flags to represent the helplessness and desperation of the refugees who spoke out in the article. Their situation was horrible and inhumane - a Kafka-esque nightmare - and I wanted the tone of the art to reflect that.
