About me

I recently graduated from Southampton Solent University with a degree in Journalism, which I strongly believe has equipped me with the necessary skills to succeed in this job role. During the course of my degree I was trained to use industry-level software, such as Quark Xpress, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. I also took a number of units within my degree which I believe will be beneficial when entering this job role, such as Online Journalism, Digital Media and PR and Marketing. I am also very eager to learn new skills and develop the skills I previously possess.

I am confident that I am a good team player, which I believe is a vital trait to have within this job role. Whilst working at Thorpe Park I worked in several different teams, and stood out as an enthusiastic leader within them. I strongly believe that the operation of the rides would not have been possible without a keen sense of teamwork and team spirit from all those working on them.

I also have excellent communication skills, which have been further developed during my degree, and also through my most recent job role at Thorpe Park. Within my seasonal job role, my main objectives were positive communication and interaction with guests. This ensured that guests enjoyed their day, but also ensured their safety and well-being during their time on park. I wanted guests to feel that I was approachable and that they could come to me with any queries or problems. In addition to this, throughout my degree and work experience, I have had to successfully communicate with external parties in order to research assignments and to set up interviews.
I am also very well-organised and am used to handling work schedules on my own, and managing my own time in accordance with varying workloads. Writing my dissertation as part of my degree required a lot of self-discipline, forward planning, and motivation. During my studies, I had to prioritise between a number of deadlines, for which I had to work in a methodical and organised way. These skills were also important during my work experience placements.
During my degree I was required to work in pressurized situations in order to successfully meet deadlines, which I believe has equipped me with the skills to succeed in this job role. Each week I was required to film and edit a news story, which then had to be produced into a news program, including graphics produced with Adobe Photoshop, and broadcast by a deadline each week. I believe that my good forward-planning and organizational skills enabled me to effectively complete this task every week.

I have an excellent attendance record, and am always punctual. I am prepared to work flexible hours to suit the needs of the business. I am reliable and trustworthy, and I respect the need for confidentiality when appropriate. I also understand the importance of health and safety. I believe I have a professional image, but at the same time I am friendly and approachable.

I hope to hear from you soon,

Rebecca Neale
