ABOUT
At the turn of 2015, the countdown began to October 21st, the day that Marty McFly and Doc Brown travelled into the future in BTTFII. It became known as 'Back to the Future day' and everyone asked the question "What did they get right that would exist in 2015?"
One of those correct predictions was video calling, as we see Marty McFly get fired by his Japanese boss via video conferencing.
After noticing the gradual build in interest grow for 'Back to the Future day', it became clear this would be a great cultural moment, and Skype should play it's part in the celebrations given it’s authentic ‘reason to exist’.
We contacted the 'We're Going Back' superfan movement in LA who had put together a whole week of events around BTTF day. They just had one problem. Michael J Fox and Christopher Lloyd had media appearances on the East coast that week, and had reluctantly turned down their invitations to attend. Time for Skype to step in, and so we did just that.
Christopher Lloyd joined his superfans on a Skype video call as they prepared to watch a screening of Back to the Future at the original filming location at Puente Hills, California. He also answered some fan’s video messages sourced through Skype's social channels and the 'We're Going Back superfans.
Supported by social marketing campaign across We’re Going Back and Skype’s social channels including custom Back to the Future II emoticons and spoof 80s themed Skype technology.
