While Barbie is often seen as a contributor to female body issues, the brand wanted to remind the world what really happens when girls play with Barbie. Every time a girl plays with Barbie, she doesn’t see her body like adults do, she imagines all the possibilities her futures hold.
In the spot four girls act as professional adults in real situations, using hidden cameras we captured the public’s reactions. None of it was scripted, and many of the scenes allowed just one take.
Getting young children to perform live in the real world wasn’t easy, but it paid off. The film displayed the girls’ imaginations and captured viewers’ attentions: according to Ace Metrix it garnered two of the highest scores ever in testing for attention and likeability. Best of all it turned the conversation around Barbie on its head.
