ABOUT
Every home holds the stories of the people living in it. But how do you tell the story of a young family moving into a new home that’s yet to be built?
Our agency partners crafted a heartfelt story about a father helping his daughter cope with the family moving. To support this authentic narrative told in a 3min short for a brand that has built over 600,000 homes, we crafted a full-length song that carries the film’s warmth and sincerity. The music needed to feel personal—like a song passed down within a family.
The film begins with a young girl overhearing her parents discuss moving and we watch her struggle with leaving behind the only home she’s known. This uncertainty is reflected in the music’s simplicity—a gentle ukulele progression that mirrors her innocence and hesitation.
Her father, sensing her worries and seeking to help her through the transition, takes a tip from their KB Home agent, and uses his craftsman skills to build a miniature model of their future house, making the big change feel smaller and more manageable. The lyrics, sung from his perspective, acknowledge her fears (“All the love we’ve built, and built upon again. Hard to move And pick right up where we began”) while offering reassurance in a steady and comforting voice (“Change will come. Take my hand. We can pick it up right where we began”).
As she engages with the model, her perspective shifts. She begins to embrace the idea of a new home, and the music evolves with her — layers of piano and cello emerge, symbolizing her growing excitement. By the end, she leads her family on a tour of the actual home, proudly showing off her new room as if she’d been destined to be there all along. The song swells, echoing her newfound confidence and joy.
At its foundation, this song is about family, change, and the love that carries us through life’s transitions. Written and performed by singer-songwriter, homeowner and father of three Matt Kelly, it bridges the perspectives of an innocent child and a caring parent — inviting heart into this touching story.
