ABOUT

Salts Mill, Saltaire, hosted the first ever career retrospective, Life, of Bradford-born social documentary photographer Ian Beesley. Ian found photography and began a lifelong study of the north’s cultural heritage.

Edited from Ian’s archive of 60,000 images, the exhibition included previously unseen pictures as well as some of his best-known works created during a career spanning over 40 years.

I created the exhibition identity along with designing a set of exhibition posters and print for Ian’s retrospective at Salts Mill.

A clean, minimal sans serif typeface was used for the exhibition identity along with the use of whitespace to give the photography room to breathe.

The exhibition title was given a jolt of colour using an intense Pantone fluro orange (the orange, a nod to Ian’s beloved Bradford City Football Club) to stand out from the monochrome design and giving the print an extra finishing detail.
