Proof of concept - a fully functional & mechanically analysed electromechanical can crusher with a factor of safety of 2.5, programmed in c and able to crush both 330ml & 500ml cans without any human interference. The programme sets the crank arm in the correct position, instructs the user to load the hopper and then counts each crush (every time the microswitch is hit by the crank arm.) After successfully crushing 5 cans, the system comes to a halt. An infrared sensor carefully calibrated determines the percentage the can has been crushed. All cans are crushed by approximately 83% of their original size.
