Renault Clio's love story takes place across three decades

Published by

A new spot for the All-New Renault Clio follows a beautiful love story 30 years in the making as the car’s various versions remain an ever present.

Created by PublicisPoke, the spot is set to the iconic Oasis’ track Wonderwall and portrays the story of two young friends and their shared experience of the quintessentially 90s school ‘French exchange’.

As their relationship blossoms over the following 30 years, each scene is punctuated by each edition of the famous Clio. The fifth generation All-New Renault Clio is the latest model of the best-selling car of its type in Europe and features the latest technological innovations.

“Renault brings people’s passion for life a little closer through our cars,” said Adam Wood, marketing director at Renault UK. “We wanted to humanise and celebrate, not just 30 years of progress of the Renault Clio, but also the progress made within culture, society and life in that time.”

Dave Monk, Executive Creative Director at Publicis•Poke added: “Britain has had a love affair with the Renault Clio since the 90s halcyon days of Papa & Nicole and wind up windows. Many things have changed in those 30 years.”

The relationship in the ad is threaded together by the Clio as it scales three decades of the iconic model, which is the best-selling French car of all time with over 15 million sold to date.

“While technology, design, attitudes and culture will always shift and change, one thing will always stay the same as long as humans have hearts. The love story,” added Monk. “This is a simple and universal tale of two souls on their own enduring the journey of life, love and passion.”
