ABOUT

Tom Dixon is a world-renowned British designer known for producing a vast collection of products, including famous pendant lighting, as well as his unrivalled, luxury furniture.

At Progress, we are passionate about producing eco-friendly solutions. When we work with a client with the same focus, it becomes an inspiring task for all involved. Tom Dixon came to us with a brief for a full overhaul of their e-commerce collection, specifically focusing on sustainable materials to be used during manufacturing, whilst retaining their high standards and quality.

The scope of the project was as big as their product range, which covers items as small as candles, all the way through to fragile architectural lighting pieces.

Centring on corrugated boxes—which we were able to produce using fully recyclable and recycled materials—we went on to provide labelling for branding and envelopes, as well as gift cards and note cards. These, too, were made using sustainable materials. To partner these items, we also produced recyclable Kraft carrier bags to be used in retail stores and as part of their online gifting range.

Four sizes of boxes were created and provided as flat pieces made from corrugated board. The two smallest boxes included crocodile tear and double-adhesive strips to facilitate the deliveries and the returns if needed. The two larger boxes were sealed using Kraft tape. The labels used were foil blocked on FSC-approved, uncoated papers in the requested sizes to create a luxury yet crafted look. When the items being transported need that extra layer of protection, loose fill is added to the boxes using either recycled tissue paper or recycled Kraft.

To marry up with these boxes, carrier bags and wallets were made using recyclable Kraft stocks, with note cards and gift card holders being produced from recycled stocks. A collection of gift cards, as well as a large card envelope were also developed to accommodate flat items that would not need to be boxed.

The finished range creates a strong statement from the brand in an era where packaging is under the microscope more than ever. It proves there is such a thing as an eco-friendly style, and Tom Dixon is not afraid to lead the way in providing products safely while caring for the environment in the process.
