About me
A creative individual, I have worked as a writer / editor in publishing for four years, followed by two years working in photography as a photographer and an assistant.
I recently realized that the freelance photography world was not for me, and I am now looking to use my experience to gain full time employment - be it using my photographic skills, my publishing experience, or both. I am particularly interested in the potential for working on a picture desk or for a picture library, thus combining my passion with my skills and experience.
My CV is available for your perusal, but here is an overview of my experience:
Photography:
I have assisted various photographers, including luminaries such as Sam Taylor-Wood, on various shoots including fashion, editorial and advertising. Generally, this involves doing whatever the photographer asks of you, be it lugging equipment or helping set up the shot. With Taylor-Wood it was more involved, as I was in charge of producing the shoot, hiring staff, and generally over-seeing all the technical aspects of a shoot and the photographic comnings and goings in her studio. I also have experience of interacting with high-level clients, including Kate Moss and Chanel.
As a photographer I completed various assignments for various clients. This included a nationwide campaign for ATOC (commissioned by WCRS); portraits for Macmillan; and published photography work for record labels such as One Little Indian.
Publishing:
Within four years I worked my way from editorial assistant through to editing my own titles. This involved print and web-based work. Therefore I am familiar with all aspects of magazine and website publication, including writing, generating ideas, editing, proofing, design (Photoshop and inDesign) and content management systems. I am also used to being an ambassador for each title at events and meetings, and sit comfortably in the company of senior industry executives, such as bankers, lawyers, architects and designers. I have covered a wide variety of subjects, which highlights my ability to pick up knowledge of new industries quickly and effectively.
