About me

I am applying for this role as one my greatest ambitions in life is to work for an organisation that strives to benefit the lives of others, and one whose ethos I can fully commit myself to.

I have excellent editing, rewriting and proofreading skills, having worked professionally as an editorial assistant for eight months, and as a voluntary editor for a year. These skills were bolstered by my three years of study for a degree in English, as well as various freelance writing roles covering a variety of topics, from finance to technology, from travel to greetings cards. Examples for each of these can be found online at the following addresses:

For all of these writing vocations, the ability to work independently, research thoroughly and be self-sourcing was vital. I had to use my initiative to investigate viable subjects for each topic and submit a shortlist of article ideas (with summaries) for the senior editor to choose from. Once a topic was approved, I would conduct all the research into the subject independently. The variety of subjects also demonstrates the versatility of my writing style.

In my last editorial roles, I would strictly adhere to house styles and to the tone of each publication, and would frequently have to edit articles to fit both of these. I have an excellent degree of experience in proofreading text, from highly technical pharmaceutical language to colloquial student-speak.

At my student publication, I developed the house style and outlined the content architecture for other members of the team to follow, to enhance consistency and promote ease-of-understanding in articles.

I am extremely IT literate, achieving an A-grade in my ICT A-level, as well as training in my own time on various operating systems (all versions of Windows, Mac OSX and Unix) and a huge array of software packages, both commercial and open source, including InDesign and many internet-based content management systems, having designed many websites myself and been employed to "search engine optimise" copy on the internet.

I am eager to assist my colleagues at all times, and often help the sister publications at both of my publishers, in both creative and simple tasks, to help ease their workflow and enhance my experience level.
