Manchester Metropolitan Student Union Shop
I am currently working as a shop assistant at the student union shop at my university. The job requires me to have knowledge of a wide range of art supplies and to be able and confident to help customers. My duties include serving customers at the till, handling cash, replenishing stock and helping customers to find the right product for their requirements.
- Early 2007
Extra on a pilot for a drama/comedy series 'Sounds' for BBC3
I was lucky enough to gain paid experience working on a real television set as an extra for a pilot episode on a comedy drama series set in Manchester for BBC3 which aired early this year. I gained firsthand experience of what it is really like behind the camera and exactly what goes into making a television program. I was able to see the roles each member of the crew performed and how they worked with one another which fascinated me. Experiencing the production company filming and putting each sequence together allowed me to see for myself what really goes on and it was something i really enjoyed taking part in.
- March 2006 to present
In store Assistant at Dominos Pizza
Currently I am working as an In store assistant as Dominos pizza. This job includes many duties and involves working with a wide range of people including the general public. I have been fully trained on taking telephone orders and cash payments over the phone, this has helped me build confident communication skills. Taking phone orders also includes dealing with any queries or complaints a customer may have, though experience I have learnt how to handle awkward customers and how to compromise to bring out the best outcome for the customers and Dominos Pizza. This job also involves working quickly and efficiently as part of a team. During busy periods ensuring we make quality food under a very tight time limit can get very demanding but I have discovered I can work very well under pressure and have been able to gain useful time management skills.
- August 2005 to September 2006
Sales Advisor at Holland and Barrett Health Store
My job as a sales advisor meant that I had to research many products Holland and Barrett sold. Unlike many other shops most of our customers came in not knowing what they were looking for but seeking advice on some kind of problem. I had to spend time with each customer finding out about their life styles, eating habits and problems to try and find the right product for them. This helped me gain great face to face experience with customers.
Interests
In my spare time I enjoy going to live music venues. I often go to the cinema and spend a lot of time reading and keeping up to date with current affairs. My favourite aspect of my film and media course last year was the television broadcasting side, especially the news and current affairs so this year I have chosen War and Conflict as an option and am currently reading about the television coverage of the Vietnam war which I find fascinating. I am also specialising in Journalism which I enjoy. I have also written a review of a music album for my university student magazine 'Pulp'.
