About me

I specialised in weave, through the Textiles Design degree programme at Nottingham Trent University. Over the three years studying, through each of the projects, I wrote a series of briefs that were aimed at looking deeply into trend predication of interior design and what gaps there were in the current market. I was aware of disposable incomes for the different groups of people and was constantly updating myself with the trends of living costs and housing conditions. I frequently came up with different ranges and ideas of fabrics and interior products that would suit people across the spectrum.

I am currently working in a school as a textile technician, guiding students with their GCSE and A Level course work. As it is a very varied course, textiles is stretched across the boundaries, from heat pressing plastics, embroidering onto water dissolvable fabric to dress making and millinery, all of which I am heavily involved in either demonstrating or assisting with. Being consciously aware of the need to recycle and use materials that are environmentally friendly, I am constantly assisting the students with ways to incorporate this into their course work, either through the material they use, the techniques or how they actually make the item. Not only do I assist the students in their practical work, but I also give lessons on the theory side, looking into fibres and fabrics their properties well as what the intended use is. I am also constantly updating the students and am therefore aware myself of what is current and forthcoming in the interior sector, fashion and millinery.

Before I went onto university, the art college I attended allowed students to cross into different types of media, from photography, graphic design, metal work and ceramics. All of these I greatly enjoyed and found I was good at, however textiles was my passion. Therefore I have a broad range of skills across art and design.

In my spare time, I love to create graphic designs especially designs for cards, either through Photoshop, watercolour painting as well as card cut outs. These designs have become quite popular and therefore I have sold packs to friends and family.

I am an extremely dedicated person with a strong personality for textiles, as it is everywhere in our ever changing world. I am highly motivated in my work and am very conscientious in order to finish a job well, with as much detail to the end. As a team leader, I am good at delegating jobs and ideas, assisting with design ideas from others, looking into every angle of its potential, as well as being part of a team, I am able to be set tasks and meet deadlines.

I feel I would be the ideal candidate for this position, as my passion is to design knowing what the consumer wants, having researched the relevant trend information through websites and visiting trade fairs, as well as presenting ideas well to an audience and liaising with many different groups of people within a design team. I am friendly and very easy to get along with, working well in a team or on my own. I like working to tight deadlines, tackling a challenge and getting stuck into something new.
