ABOUT
The Problem:
Homelessness is visible. Impact isn’t. St Paul’s Hostel was facing growing local scepticism.
The community saw the issue on their streets, but not the immediate happening every day inside the hostel. Trust was eroding. Donations were stagnating. And the narrative had started to drift from solution to stigma.
The Insight:
Hope doesn’t live in statistics. It lives in moments. People disengage when change feels distant or abstract. But when progress feels immediate, when it feels local, tangible, and when people can see it's happening now, belief returns. If we could show that hope isn’t somewhere else, someday, but right here, right now, we could rebuild trust.
The Idea:
Hope Starts Here is a line with dual meaning. Here as being the physical place, St Paul’s Hostel. And here as being the moment in time, when change begins. The platform reframed the hostel not as a symbol of homelessness, but as the starting point of transformation. A place where hope isn’t just promised but where it's actually provided and realised.
The Execution:
We built a purpose-led narrative system around that simple truth. Working closely with senior leadership and frontline staff, we captured real stories of immediate impact. First nights off the street. First job interviews. First steps toward independence. Across OOH, print, social, and web, every touchpoint reinforced the same message: Hope is not abstract. It starts with a bed, a meal, a conversation. It starts here.
The creative avoided charity tropes and pity narratives. Instead, it focused on restoring dignity, and inspiring action. The language was grounded. The storytelling was human. The geography was local. The community wasn’t asked to feel sorry. They were invited to be part of where change begins.
The Impact:
• 300,000+ campaign impacts
• Significant uplift in engagement
• Increased positive media coverage
• Measurable rise in donations
But the most important result wasn’t numeric. The hostel shifted from being seen as part of the problem to being recognised as the place progress begins. Trust returned. Empathy grew. And support increased. Because when people could see that Hope Starts Here, they wanted to be part of making it happen.
