About me
Joseph is an American photographer and filmmaker currently based in Heidelberg, Germany. He focuses mainly on Dance related films grappling with societal issues like immigration, racism, gender equality and the environment. Recent projects have experimented with new video techniques such as 360 video, wearable cameras, interactive video, and aerial drone.
Joseph Franciosa has produced numerous award winning films. His 2021 film "FoxKeeper", a dance video about refugees and the perils faced when trying to find a better life in a strange country was selected and won honorable mention at 5 international film festivals and awarded best cinematography at Experimental, Dance, Music Film Festival in Los Angeles 2021. His 2022 film "Inferno" a dance video about trauma, exclusion and refugees was selected and awarded at the Los Angeles Film Awards 2022 for Best Experimental film, Silk Road Film Awards for Best Dance Film, International Music Video Awards 2022 for Best Dance Music Video, and many others. "Manusz", a dance video about the experiences of a Romani artist living in Germany received the Audience Choice award at the Ake Dikhea 6th International festival of Romani Film 2022. In 2021 He received the QuarryLife Award grant and produced the film "Restoration": a dance video depicting the transitions of a rock quarry and how more companies need to address their transition out of the material extraction phase. It was awarded Honorable Mention at the Athens International Monthly art Film Festival and Official Selection at the Berlin Indie Film Festival 2023. His recent works include the film "XE{zi}" a film about Gender Identity collaboration with Darja Reznikova SoBo Productions and "Diese Geschitchte, Die Ich Dir Erzahle" a collection of women stories. His current projects include "Dialogos" a dance video project showing the global connection and empathy between dancers around the world, and "Revelations" and dance video about trauma and recovery.
