ABOUT

The Great Indian Bustard or Godawan is a native bird of Rajasthan. It was once considered a rival to the Peacock as India’s national bird. But it is now critically endangered. Only 128 remain in the world.

Realising something needed to be done, and urgently, to save this bird from extinction, we decided to help. So, we created a unique Rajasthani whisky brand dedicated to saving the local species from a local distillery. Naturally, we called this whisky Godawan. A rare whisky, for a rare bird, from a rare and precious land.

Every element of the brand was considered from its water-positive home, through local ingredients and the responsible pack specification to minimise its carbon footprint. Including, Diageo India’s first Indian-sourced FSC-certified board and locally-made bottles. Full of exquisite details, the design champions the unparalleled artisanship of Rajasthan and the way beauty can bloom from the desert landscape.

In just a few months, Godawan has already made an impact - helping to fund vital work to save a precious bird. To date, over 11 million rupees have been invested, protecting over 200 acres of habitat for the feeding and nesting of Godawan birds.

An Indian-born global brand with mindful luxury at its heart, building a bright future for a rare bird.
