About me
My name is Andrew O'Donnell. I am a freelance artist and animator. I also design and create my own animated films.
I have a Bachelor's degree in Architecture and a Masters degree in Animation, for which I received a 1st for my final project, the animated short Gaius Imperator.
I am an ardent fan of cinema and animation. Since I was very young I have drawn my own cartoon characters and made my own animated comic books. My earlier works were influenced by such comic books as Calvin and Hobbes (mainly Spaceman Spiff who is part of Calvin's imagination) and Tin Tin. The world and characters I created have also been largely based on science fiction in general.
More recently I have become interested in darker and historical pieces. I have recently created a graphic novel based on the hypothetical rule of a continuing Roman Empire. One of my strongest influences in the graphic novel genre is V for Vendetta as well as the Batman comic books. The plot of my graphic novel was taken directly from ancient sources with some variations for artistic effect. It centres on a young, newly crowned emperor who is beginning to show himself as a despot and the reaction from the political class that challenge his power. From this graphic novel I made the short film Gaius Imperator. I am now in the process of creating a longer more complex version of the story.
I continue to advance my knowledge in the field of animation and I am increasing my use of 3D animation. I have now begun animating sequences of my alien comic story in 3D with Blender.
