I was provided with a 2D concept design to translate into a wearable full-head silicone mask to be worn by the lead character for this horror comedy independent feature film, starring the titular amphibious creature.
I worked with the Director to make adjustments to the 2D concept art, discussed how the mask needed to work with the actor and costume on screen and how to bring the character of the creature alive in the execution of the mask. I then sculpted, moulded, cast and painted the final mask. The mask required acrylic eyepieces which I also designed and painted.
The feature film began achieving cult status as soon as it hit the independent film festival market, winning accolades throughout 2022 including Best Feature Film at Sci-Fi London and Romford International Horror Film Festivals, and a nomination for Best Sfx at GenreBlast Film Festival.

Steve from Mind Magic Studios did an incredible job with sculpting and creating a humanoid sea creature mask for the feature film ManFish. He managed to turn the mask around in a short amount of time and followed the briefly closely - adding his own creativity and artistic impression to the finished sculpt which gave the mask an extra layer of awesomeness. The film has gone on to win awards at film festivals around the world - this wouldn't have happened without Steves brilliant work. I'd highly recommend working with Mind Magic Studios for all your special effects needs - we can't wait to work with them again.
