To celebrate skateboarding’s debut at the 2021 Summer Games in Tokyo, we launched “Skate Nation Ghana.” The short film follows the story of Ghana’s burgeoning skateboarding scene,showing how Joshua Odamtten, one of Accra’s first skaters, and community organizer Sandy Alibo used Instagram, WhatsApp and Facebook to build a community and culture that now influences skaters around the world. Editor Paul Watts turned countless hours of footage captured with multiple units on the ground in Ghana—from camcorder clips to photos and cinematic shots to Facebook UI moments—into a cohesive, breathtaking film that follows the story of Ghana’s skate culture from its inception to present day. A fast-paced edit captures the energy of Accra’s streets as much as the spirit of the skaters inhabiting them.
