CONCEPT:
Cats & Dogs — The Weather App is a passion project that quickly spiraled out of control.
Designed and created from the ground up, we wanted to push our boundaries in mobile app design and create an app that would put a smile on people’s faces.

We thought, “Checking the weather is something we do every day, so why isn’t it fun? Even something as mundane as checking the weather should spark joy.”

We ended up with a simple and solid “weather-meets-pet” concept that does not just tell you the weather, it adds a quick burst of cuteness to your day!

Down this route, we discovered there was a huge void in beautifully designed weather apps, so it was the perfect opportunity to huddle our talents and make the world’s cutest weather app on the market — as the saying goes, “if you can’t find the book you want to read, write it!”

EXECUTION:
We started with the name, inspired by the phrase “It’s raining cats and dogs”, which evolved into the app adapting a punny personality that’s evident in every copy — from when you read today’s weather (“Pup it like it’s hot!“, “When it rains, it paws!“) to when choosing outfits for your pet (Bunny Hat: “Bad hare day? No problem!“, Aviator Jacket: “This jacket is just plane awesome”) to buying things and choosing themes, everything was written with an attempt to make our users giggle.

We complemented this with simple yet playful visuals, designed tons and tons of clothing items, and created the 2 cutest pets our users can make their own, pairing them with loads of interactions and functionalities.

Of course, the goal wasn’t to just create the best-looking app, but also the most functional one, so we bundled up all these whimsical graphics with a powerful Dark Sky integration to offer hyperlocal, down-to-the-minute forecasts and weather information alongside beautifully animated weather cycles you can experience within the app.

RESULT:
The result is an iOS exclusive app that offers a uniquely pawsome experience — letting you check accurate, in-depth weather while taking care of the cutest virtual pet! Feed, dress, bathe, play, collect, there are oodles of features to bark joy into your day!
