Silk Pearce Colchester

ABOUT

Silk Pearce first worked with Alessandro Talevi in 2005, designing and creating the programmes and marketing material for his first four operas whilst he was Artistic Director at Independent Opera at Saddler’s Wells, a charity set up to locate, nurture, develop and showcase the next generation of outstanding opera artists.

Over a fifteen-year period Silk Pearce designed and created everything from Independent Opera’s branding and website, through to their programmes, posters and advertising that supported an annual calendar of events, recitals and operas which took place at London’s Wigmore Hall and Sadler’s Wells.

After his four-year tenure at Independent Opera, the past decade has seen Talevi’s career go from strength to strength and he is now recognised as one of the leading opera directors of his generation. 2021 sees the launch of Talevi’s new website by Silk Pearce, which is designed to further elevate the profile of the highly talented opera director to the next level.

The creative studio’s execution focuses on the rich stage photography and film of Talevi’s portfolio of productions which range from Tosca, Rigoletto and The Magic Flute to Hänsel and Gretel and L’Amour des Trois Oranges, which have been performed at opera houses and theatres around the world.

The dramatic imagery of Talevi’s operas fills the screen, firmly putting the spotlight on the creativity of his artistic direction. The imagery is complemented by the clever, yet subtle and delicate use of typography, which runs across the page, providing a glimpse of something behind the scenes and aptly another layer of theatre, which is further revealed as visitors view each opera.

Here, we see the clever use of oversized negative imagery (think celluloid film negatives) that echo the full colour counterpart on the screen, providing a striking backdrop and an intensity of detail that almost unwittingly draw the eye back to further examine the main imagery.
Most intriguing is that these dynamic pages change quite dramatically when viewed on different devices and screen dimensions, providing a view that is almost as unique as each visitor.
