Studio Unbound Glasgow

ABOUT

Studio Unbound collaborated with Patkai, a UK-based Assam tea company founded by Pallavi Konwar, to develop packaging that would reflect the quality of the loose-leaf tea blends they carefully curated. Pallavi, who grew up in Assam, was unable to find the same quality of Assam tea in the UK, so she decided to create her own.

To create Patkai's visual identity, Studio Unbound took inspiration from the Assam silk industry, which is the other famous export of the region. The brand's colour palette and hero illustrations on the pack were inspired by a traditional decorative silk called the king khap. This not only connotes luxury but also mimics a beautiful golden brewed tea droplet.

The king khap features illustrations that reflect Patkai's social mission of conserving the environment and wildlife of the region which Patkai has pledged to donate part of their profits to the conservation area. Deforestation is one of the many controversial activities that has endangered species such as the One-Horned rhino, Adjutant Stork, and River Dolphin, which are illustrated within the droplet alongside the teas key ingredients.

The end result is a luxurious tea that reflects the rich history and culture of Assam tea. The collaboration between Studio Unbound and Patkai has resulted in a visually appealing product that not only reflects the quality of the tea but also supports a vital social cause.

The packaging looks perfect for any royal tea party or for those who appreciate the craftsmanship and the social responsibility of the brand. Overall, the collaboration has created a product that is not only beautiful but also has a positive impact on the environment and wildlife of the region.
