About me
As a recent Joint Honours English and Spanish graduate, from the University of Southampton, my written communication is at a high standard. My ability to write well and meet deadlines have been optimised throughout this four year course. Being able to deal with a demanding workload was paramount, whilst also being able to produce high quality critical essays and projects. My research skills had to be concise and efficient to succeed. This degree also required strong organisational skills, having to ensure that my time was spread out evenly to confront a multitude of tasks. My competency with microsoft software and social media is to a strong level, as I have used both to a frequent level over the years.
Throughout my employment history my verbal communication has refined to a proficient level. Working as a lifeguard involved a lot of responsibility and so the ability to communicate to a high level not only with my fellow peers, but with the customers, was essential for the safety of everyone. Interpersonal skills are of most importance at my current bar work, being able to lead a team and work within a team is key. The bar work I have undertaken has also benefited my levels of verbal communication. This was needed to achieve high levels of efficiency, provide good customer service and high sales. Furthermore, I was part of a small team that organised two charity events, that raised over nine-thousand pounds for cancer research and it got plenty of recognition locally. The ability to market such events was vital, using all forms of social media to gain a large audience. Without a doubt, this required a fine attention to detail, as well as exemplary organisational and planning skills. In terms of leadership qualities I can draw upon the time I acted as a mentor and taught English to four Spanish students who had recently migrated to the UK, as a result giving me experience in prioritising work, planning lessons and a high level of communicative initiative. I also studied for a year in Spain, which undoubtedly fine-tuned these aforementioned skills. Whilst also developing administrative abilities by arranging, accommodation and documentation for living abroad. Moreover, gaining a deeper cultural awareness and strengthened interpersonal skills by living alongside students from different countries.
Things I like to do include immersing myself in blog writing and poetry. I also enjoyed co-hosting the sports show on the student run radio station called surge. Alongside this, I regularly contribute to a well known youtube channel called LionsTV, articulating my opinion on the week's football. As a result, my creativity levels have been well nourished by these aforementioned endeavours. At the charity shop I currently volunteer at I am in charge of the social media pages. Posting regularly which has created a significantly bigger following since my management. I also undertake a lot of administrative tasks within my volunteering role. Regularly filling out spreadsheets to account for donations, gift aid and the pricing of items, and also liaising with head office sending them important documents and paperwork. Whilst ensuring the continuation and enhancements of services. In addition, this role will allow me to showcase my good social, communicative and interpersonal skills gained from such experiences. My eagerness to work hard and rise to a challenge have been evident throughout my late teenage and early adult life. From the age of sixteen I have ensured that my productivity levels are to a high standard. I can demonstrate this, due to the fact that I was working at leisure centres and bars respectively, whilst I was studying, because I did not want to get into the habit of being unemployed and unproductive. As well as seeking voluntary work alongside my current employment so as to gain the skills required for such a role.
