About me
I am currently working as a Media Prep Coordinator for The Walt Disney Company. This role is one that has helped me gain an insight into the TV Industry by focusing on the quality control of audio and visual content for multiple Disney Channels and platforms including; VOD and promos. This requires me to extensively check content against industry regulations and client specifications, dealing with International departments regarding delivery dates, content and technical queries.
As this role can vary from day to day, for instance dealing with tasks given by Producers to liaising edit shifts, I have been able to work on my versatility and time keeping, making sure that I am able to plan and prioritise my work schedule. The fast paced environment at Disney has meant that I am able to manage multiple tasks under pressure, including my own, as well as assisting fellow colleagues with new systems. I always complete tasks, whether they are new or challenging, to the best of my ability, making sure that I adhere to the time frames for broadcasting.
Prior to my job at The Walt Disney Company, I attended The University of Kent where I graduated in June 2019 after completing 3 years in Kent and a year abroad in Amsterdam. My experience whilst studying furthered my interest in TV, Media and Film and I hope to advance my career in these industries.
I have held positions which required flexibility both in terms of roles and departments. I understand the importance of variety within the Media Industry and the different disciplines I would need to work in. I have learned skills that can be used across a variety of disciplines and can do so with ease and confidence, keeping on top of day to day tasks and tackling any obstacles that I am faced with.
Having worked in a film company where my time was primarily focused on the marketing and selling in the bitcoin sector, I have gained experience of how products can be sold to a very specific audience, with a focus on pre-production and research. At Aglow Films, it was important I took into account not only the client's requirements and the ways in which we would present them, but also the existing marketing collateral and channels used in the bitcoin sector. I undertook extensive research by myself, looking at existing online content to find ways where we could differentiate our offering from the competition. This was something that I found particularly interesting as the research meant I could gain an idea of what was already available in the industry and broaden my knowledge to produce effective ideas, despite having little knowledge of the bitcoin industry. This role required me to work under pressure, to the client's deadline, ensuring the content we provided was the most suitable for the brief.
I understand the importance of contributing to the entertainment industry and I have an enthusiastic work ethic to help me do this. I believe that not only can I contribute effectively but can also help my team members. At University I was often required to undertake group assignments, sometimes with those who were less confident, taking on a leadership role. I learnt the importance encouragement and mentoring but also patience and learning to be tolerant in a team, I am always happy to work hard in a project and a very willing to assist other team member.
I also understand the importance of working as a team from my time playing Netball. I began playing it in Primary School and continued to do so through to University where I was Captain of my team. I was in charge of communicating with other teams about fixtures and travel. Organising team practises and training sessions. I learnt invaluable skills about decision making, knowing when to take myself off and substitute in another player for the benefit of the whole team. My time as Captain also helped me develop my listening skills and knowing how to motivate others and encourage them during difficult and morale lowering times. Additionally, my decisions weren't always correct and so conflict was an aspect I had to deal with, learning when and how to deal with different situations.
I spent three years (vacation work) at a high end pharmaceutical company providing efficient support in the HR department, which has helped to improve my organisational and communication skills. I was responsible for a wide variety of administration tasks as well as mentoring and training new employees on the company's policies and systems. I also learned new skills working in the finance department, helping generate costs and invoices for hospitals, which meant I had regular experience using Microsoft Excel.
In closing, I am a keen learner and a diligent worker, who also likes to have fun. I firmly believe that my Film and Media degree and previous work experience, alongside my interests outside of work, would make me a valuable part of the team.
