About me

Having studied art and set design at university, I went on to work in graphic design for the film industry, and I'm now transitioning into the commercial sector. Throughout my career in film, I have not only developed technical design skills, but I have also gained practical, hands-on experience whilst working on set during filming. I believe my years working in the film industry has made me a valued and adaptable professional, and the skills I've learnt are directly transferable to working for a commercial company.

During my work in film I have designed and produced finished book covers, magazines, signage, brochures, product packages and more - all to be used as props or placed on set as part of the decoration. Having printed a lot of these in house as well as leasing with printer companies, I have developed a good knowledge of the printing process, and I am confident creating high-quality, print-ready files for both small and large scale printing. As a very tactile person, I am especially passionate about designing for print and other physical media, but I am also confident creating artwork for digital distribution. I do all of my professional design work on the Adobe Creative Cloud suite, and I also make use of Photoshop to create digital illustrations as my own personal projects. As a freelance artist and designer I have experience creating content for social media and online shops, always staying attuned to emerging trends.

Whilst working on several period films, I have developed a great capacity for visual research which allowed me to create really authentic period artwork. This was done by looking into existing products and brands from the time, and taking inspiration from the inherent design styles. I believe this is something that will be applicable when doing market research for a modern brand. Every graphic prop I've designed has been incredibly specific to the needs of the character and setting of the scene, which allowed me to develop great versatility when it comes to designing for different subject matters. I have a strong eye for textures, composition, typography and colour, and pay special attention to how all of those elements come together to produce the aesthetic needed for each product. Apart from creating graphic props for the screen, my previous role also included designing in-house presentations. I worked extensively with typography and colour schemes to maintain a consistent visual language on the material produced in order to reflect the brand of the project. I am passionate about creating personalised and effective designs that convey the brand's message and drive the material forward.

Having worked closely with experienced graphic designers, as well as illustrators and scenic painters, I've learned to become attuned to my team's needs, and I am confident adapting to different modes of working, switching regularly between autonomous and collaborative work. As a result of having to get my designs approved by the Production Designer and Set Decorator, as well as copyright lawyers, amending artwork based on feedback is a core part of my workflow. Apart from spending time designing, part of my previous role also included working with the shooting crew, making sure that the artwork that my team and I produced was properly placed on set. Other times I would be in charge of organising and conducting photoshoots with the actors, since the graphic props I created would often need photos of them in costume. Working in film I have become used to tight deadlines and working on multiple concurrent projects in a methodical and organised manner. I have always been meticulous in my approach to design as I've produced many graphic props that would be shown in close-ups on-screen. This strong attention to detail, whilst working in a fast-paced environment, is reflected in all of my work.
