About me

Herewith, my career summary:

February 2003 - December 2009.

This is a time in Wynand's life when very little mattered. He was totally into the beach and happy hours at the bar down the street from where he worked. In his mind, it was always summer.

It all changed pretty quickly when he saw his friends going abroad and coming back with the coolest stories, new experiences to boost their lives with and yes, money.

The rest they say is history...

January 2010 - June 2012

Dubai was a learning curve for the first-time expat. He was thrown into a place where many expatriates fell over each other to find their little piece of gold. It was scary, but it was thrilling too.

Working in F&B and Hospitality taught him to stand up straight and to handle difficult situations with care and patience. Not bad for someone who basically just knew how to fold clothes and ring up items...

July 2012 - June 2014

After a string of interviews and loads of planning, Wynand finally arrives in Beijing. What was initially just an English teaching role, later became something that included painting, collaging, sketching, Lego building and sticky clay all over his favorite jeans.

It was fun while it lasted, but there were more important things to do...

July 2014 - January 2015

Wynand didn't think he would make the cut, but when the Human Resources department called him to say that he got the job as an English Content Writer, he immediately knew that this opportunity was a game-changer.

At TUI China, it was all about crafting marketing content, itinerary development, newsletters, EDM's, company documentation and consuming plenty of bad coffee. It was the beginning of new things to come...

May 2015 - February 2016

Things were getting real. How did he go from housekeeping coordinator to lifestyle writer

Wynand writes his fingers to be bone at La Vie Zine and crafts a variety of nightlife, food and travel pieces. He later manages the small team of junior writes and he is worried that he might look older than he really is.

March 2016 - November 2018

Following a short-term personal project with someone at Brand Head, Wynand first joins the agency as Conceptual Copywriter and is later promoted to Senior Copywriter.

It's a magic carpet ride of brainstorming, concept development, storyboarding, sketching, planning, storytelling and then finally stringing all the creative strands together to produce a proposal or a concept plan for prospective clients.

It is during his time at Brand Head that Wynand spends plenty of time with designers who introduce him to the basics of the Marvel APP and Adobe InDesign. This all made his job way easier and it made him curious about what else is out there to learn.

December 2018 - Currently

Wynand decides to flee the coup of creativity known as Brand Head. Not an easy decision to make, but with almost-impossible visa regulations, his time in Beijing comes to an end.

He now works as a freelancer of sorts and struggles to define the niche he finds himself in, but it's 2019 and as a content writer, one must be adaptable.

He is currently studying online to gain some insight on Digital Marketing, and in his spare time, he is taking courses via HubSpot (Content Marketing, SEO and E-mail Marketing) to make the most of free education.
