Founded By Ex-MTV Colleagues Ashley Cowan And Darren Emerson, East City Films Has Produced Branded Content, Documentaries, Television And Music Video Content For Over 10 Years. In 2015 We Began Producing Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality And 360° Video With Our Immersive Studio VR City.

Whether it's branded content for The Guardian, a multi-camera shoot at a festival or a VR documentary about the UK's indefinite detention system, we immerse audiences in stories which live long in the memory and transform emotions.

We pride ourselves as storytellers and have travelled the world to unearth people and places which excite and inspire us. We’ve produced documentaries in Nigeria, Portugal and India. We’ve made television adverts for Visit Malta and Macallan and created 360 video content for ITV and San Miguel. We’ve filmed musicians from Adele to The XX and produced branded content for Coca-Cola, Lexus, and Smirnoff.

We're best known for our VR documentaries, which focus on issues of social justice. Directed and produced by our co-founder Darren Emerson, our VR films have played at film festivals all over the world. From Cannes and IDFA to Sheffield Doc Fest and Tribeca our work has been celebrated by audiences and critics alike.

Indefinite, a virtual reality experience about the UK's indefinite detention system was licensed by the New York Times VR app. Witness 360: 7/7 is an original pioneer in 360 video production. Most recently, the Creative XR and Arts Council funded Common Ground is an interactive VR experience that premiered at Tribeca Film Festival.

East City Films is an eclectic place, but we have one vein running through all our work. We strive to illuminate the world using traditional and immersive platforms.
