ABOUT
I was given an open brief to create a 3 piece collection of my choice on any subject. I chose Alice in Wonderland as my theme as this was around the time the Tim Burton Alice in Wonderland films were becoming popular. I conducted my primary and secondary research into the subject, visiting the birth place of Lewis Carroll and researching illustrators, fashion design and accessories that already existed on the subject. I found a lot of work before me was quite similar and mostly just a variation on her outfits in the illustrations within the book.
After conducting more research, I came across 'Alice In Wonderland Syndrome' which really interested me and my research took a new direction into abstract prints, mainly marbling techniques. From this, I researched all I could about marbling and hand-developed my own marble prints. Having never done this before, I spent a lot of time creating print samples and testing different fabrics.
I completed my 3 outfit collection having chosen to use the blue and white theme within marbling and creating a 'faux denim' look. This collection resulted in me graduating with a Distinction for my foundation degree.
