House Rules

The Sex Marshal brand has been around for a few projects now. And unlike other previous fictitious brands I have used in the past, this one carries a very strict style and core ideas.

It is a Japanese tuner with strong American influence. Their designs focus on narrow bodies as a counter to the widebody boom of the 2010's. Instead, meatier tires and advanced suspension allow for a sleeker look akin to kyusha.

Decals and stickers are guided by the avant-garde interpretation of 2000's kitsch seen throughout the internet. Color choices are encouraged to go rogue.

The front ends usually pay homage to the car's design history by both OEM and tuner brands. Front splitters always feature some quirkiness to their design. The rears feature the signature huge diffuser which houses the taillights. No wings.

The First American

The 1965 Ford Mustang was chosen to be the first non-Japanese car to be modified by the brand. As a precaution, all house rules and design elements were carefully reviewed before production began. The iconic rear window cutouts were let go for a fear of redundancy given the notchback's cabin.

A few other changes were also made to protocol to indicate a departure from previous projects. The front headlights were fully redesigned to incorporate the headbeams from a gen 2 Ford GT. In fact, careful eyes will catch a bit of Ford GT influence throughout the build. Outstanding examples include the side intakes, front splitter and exhausts at the rear. This OEM influence was brought in as a substitute for more tuner inspired influences seen in the all-JP kits.

Liminal Dream

Both brand and associated projects exist currently entirely within the confines of the internet. Perhaps someday they will be allowed outside to play. The interest on the NSX build was surprising to see and it will perhaps be the first kit to be produced, if they get produced, given the response it got both on and offline.

This latest build also stands as a great introduction to the brand, featuring the signature huge diffuser setup in a brand new way. I hope to one day be able to give gearheads and passers-by alike the experience of walking up to this car and realizing the rear is almost completely hollow. I hope it feels as surreal in person as it did while coming up with the concept.
