About us

We created Gelfand-Piper Photography in 1985, and since then grew two daughters, five dogs, and owned many more cameras than I can remember. We photograph as a team, both carrying cameras and offering our own points of view. As commercial photographers, we take a documentary approach, producing photos which engage viewers by being real and full of life. No professional models. No artificial environments. Would such an approach be of value to you and your clients? We are writing now because we find that the warmer months are the most in demand.

To be successful, commercial documentary photographers must be quick, observant, tuned in, and possess the skill and resourcefulness to adapt to changing environments. The ability to connect with our subjects and see adventure in every new situation is what continues to motivate us.

As part of your team, we will brainstorm and plan with you, and work as independently or collaboratively as you wish.

We have a large list of clients that you can see on our website: corporate, small business, health care, schools, and arts organizations. Our photos are used in marketing and advertising pieces, annual reports, internal publications, websites, books, and news media. We enjoy working with organizations that have a community focus, both nonprofit and for profit.

Steve and I have MFA degrees in Fine Art Photography from RIT. He has been a photography instructor at RIT and we both have taught photography at St. John Fisher. We maintain many ties within the photo community, and continue to produce and exhibit our personal work.
