About me
I am currently working through VSO in Tanzania for Femina HIP, a multimedia publishing NGO that produces magazines, TV, radio, website focused on the promotion of sexual health and HIV/AIDS information using an edutainment model. (combining entertainment and education; the magazines include pop culture, music, art, interviews, photo stories and indepth articles). My role as Graphic Design Advisor has been to set up a production department, support the editorial staff in software training, and assist with the development and implementation of a tendering process for printing services. I have managed the reprint process for several publications, created some advertising, promotional material and t-shirts. I have also designed a book children age 8-14 about growing up in Tanzania called Watoto Bomba.
Before I left Canada in June 2006, I was the Art Director for Orca Book Publishers and was responsible for the design, layout, production, and picture book art direction of the books published by Orca. One book entitled By a Thread tied for second place in the Alcuin Society picture book design category.
My experience at Orca Book Publishers expanded my skills and knowledge of graphic design, art direction, project management and the Canadian publishing industry.
