ABOUT
OVERVIEW BRIEF This was my final university project. I started my research on how Social Media influence teenagers to do mindless acts as at that time I heard a lot of stories about '#...' challenges that harmed young teens. Through researching and eliminating my ideas I chose a topic about 'Stick and Poke Tattoos'
THE TOPIC & RESEARCH Stick and poke tattoos are homemade by manually poking the skin with a needle and any type of ink you can find. This technique is widely popular in prison and some Japanese cultures. However stick and poke tattoos have become more popular among underage teens. Having a tattoo became more popular because teenagers that are easily influenced looked up to instagram influencers and famous artists who were showing off their tattoos in pictures. They wanted to be like them and they wanted to imitate them. They would go through extreme measures to do so. One YouTube video received 3 million views on how to use a sewing needle and biro pen ink to tattoo the skin.
Why stick and poke tattoos are dangerous? Cameron Rokhsar, associate clinical professor of dermatology says his worry about this technique is infection from an unsanitary needle, which can lead to staph infections. If a needle is shared it can spread diseases like HIV, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
THE REAL BRIEF Create a campaign/artwork/design that will raise awareness around Stick and Poke tattoos and their dangers of them. This should be targeted to teenagers as this technique is the most common amongst them,
HOW I RESPONDED TO THE BRIEF Rethink is a product to educate and prevent teenagers about the dangers of Stick and Poke tattoos. It achieves this by providing temporary tattoos (the tattoo designs are replicates of influencers or famous artists tattoos), a booklet that is included inside the kit with information on the dangers of the technique. The product will be launched with a Snapchat filter that will have a link to the website that is hosted which will be ASOS as it is one of the most popular online stores amongst the audience that I am targeting.
