About me

I am currently editor of the in-house magazine and journal for the Royal College of Midwives on behalf of Ten Alps Publishing with a staff of four - a deputy, an assistant and two professional editors. For the past three years, I have also freelanced as assistant editor on the British Journal of Infection Control - another contracted publication of Ten Alps'.

Over the years, I have provided support for other colleagues and the company's studio in laying out and design work, subbing and proofreading, on such titles as Accounting Technician, The Controller and Auto Services and Repairs.

I have expert knowledge of Quark Xpress, but only a working knowledge of InDesign.

I have a Master's in medical ethics and law, a BA honours in philosophy (2:1) and an NCTJ diploma in magazine journalism.

I have had sole responsibility for flat-planning for the last four years as editor and have never failed to meet a deadline. I am highly organised and remain calm under pressure. I have been commended by my director for both my skill and attention to detail as an editor, my commitment and creativity and for my managerial skills. I believe I lead by example - never asking another to complete a task I would not complete myself. I trust others and believe in their abilities, which in turn instils individual confidence. My staff have always been clear of the pivotal nature of their role and the importance it has in the bigger picture and hence have never failed to deliver. I believe I have been instrumental in this.
