An exploration into traditional pagan festivals and rituals that date back centuries. That take place in rural communities across Europe, in attempts to banish evil spirits, welcome in the seasonal changes and celebrate the natural world. This book commemorates the weird and wonderful world of paganism in all its eccentricity’s. Focusing on the ancient Kukeri and Survakai that take place in Bulgaria, Turkey and Britain. The illustrations capture the traditional folk clothing worn by the pagan community on these special occasions that are extraordinary in diversity and prodigiously beautiful.

The books purpose is to bring attention to ancient folklore in the pagan culture that can be misunderstood in the contemporary world, and to seek out the traditional, the ancient and the overall authenticity of these pagan pursuits. Too the viewers eye the imagery could be portrayed as an oddity and a little unsettling. Because of the symbolic characters created threw costumes and masks. Each character has a different meaning and important purpose within the festivals, that are often made from natural materials such as; plants, animal skins and antlers.
